Safe Harbor

Tucked away from the salty waters of Winyah Bay, just inside the mouth of the Sampit River, this old wooden sailboat was a surprise last night when we went for a walk.  It should be safe here from the winds and waves of Irma today.

It's not the old girl's first tropical storm, nor ours.  We're tucked away, too, in our studies,  with coffee and our work, watchful dog, napping cat ... and each other!

Wild nights - Wild nights!
Were I with thee
Wild nights should be
Our luxury!

Futile - the winds -
To a Heart in port -
Done with the Compass -
Done with the Chart!

Rowing in Eden -
Ah - the Sea!
Might I but moor - tonight -
In thee! Wild nights - Wild nights!
Were I with thee
Wild nights should be
Our luxury!

Futile - the winds -
To a Heart in port -
Done with the Compass -
Done with the Chart!

Rowing in Eden -
Ah - the Sea!
Might I but moor - tonight -
In thee!

  4. After 20 years living aboard a smaller sailboat than that one, I am grateful to be in a nice house out of the hurricane zone! 25 years ago today, hurricane Iniki took aim on Waikiki and our boat 3 days after we moved on to it. Then there were the tsunamis....

  6. Good that you're safe. This one caused much stress as to where it would go and what it might do.

  8. Hoping you have remained safe and sound. We're watching the devastation around the hurricane on tv, feeling for so many people affected by it all.
